On Being Temporary

We are taught to fear being temporary,
as if fleeting means worthless.

But what if temporary is what makes us sacred.

A sunset is beautiful because it doesn't stay.
A childhood summer is holy
because you can never go back to it.

Love is devastating and divine for the same reason,
because it was never promised to be forever
and you chose it anyway.

You are not less worthy because you won't last forever here.
You are more worthy
because you are fleeting,
and still, you love.
